What not to say on your first date

By Jason Daly | March 19, 2009

A first date can be quite stressful and if you start saying things you shouldn’t you are doing nothing but digging yourself an unwanted hole that you’ll never get out of. No one wants to go on a first date and have to deal with the other person saying horrid things, so by avoiding some of the following topics you can avoid saying all those things you shouldn’t on a first date.

The following are some topics you should try to avoid talking about on a first date:

Politics
Ex’s
Sex
The future
Religion
Medical problems
Lousy days at work
Gossip
Money
Outrageous moments in your life

Now you are probably thinking that it leaves you with just about nothing to talk about, but when you think about all these topics they can be quite one sided and turn the person away from wanting a second date.

First dates are a way for the other person to get to know you on a personal basis and if you are talking about random topics the other person could either get really bored or just not like what you are talking about giving the first date a really bad experience which you really want to avoid.

On your first date with someone you are suppose to be getting to know them so asking them questions could really help them get a feel that you are interested in their life and who they are. This could make that person feel really good depending on what you are asking. Avoid asking about their previous dates and personal life and focus on what they are into. You’d be amazed about things you could learn about someone on the first date and could end up finding out that you both have many similar interests.

When you go on a first date with someone you are always being analyzed by the other person and if you give them a bad impression that will never go away. You want to make that other person feel comfortable with you and the only way to do that is by keeping an interesting conversation that the other person is interested in. Avoid embarrassing topics or things that may make them feel uncomfortable and you could soon find yourself going onto another date with that person.
