Advice for that First Date

That first date. So where do you go, what do you do? There are many options from which to choose, but a lot of that will depend upon just how well you know the person you are seeing.

In a first date situation if you don’t know a lot about the person, you want to avoid a place where you will have to talk, and avoid a place where you won’t have to talk. That means finding a middle ground where you both will be comfortable.

Places to avoid include a fancy dinner where there will likely be awkward occasions with pockets of silence that will be begging to be filled. On the other hand if you go to let’s say a movie you won’t be talking at all, and no information will be exchanged.

So you really want to go to a place where you can have some fun and talk in a low pressure environment. This way if things go stale the surroundings can provide you with something to fall back on.

That is why your best bet is to pick a hobby you both enjoy. Maybe it’s a sport or going to the beach were going to the mall. Again, you want to be around other people were in an interesting environment that can keep the conversation flowing.

And if that to a you realize that later on in your day things are going great you can then take it a step further by meeting later for a fancy dinner, but there really is no rush.

Really, on that first day it’s more of a feeling out process. Are you comfortable with the other person, do you get along, do you share similar ideas and interests, and above all is it worth while to set up a second date.

Now, let’s say that things are just not working out, that doesn’t necessarily mean you two are incompatible. Rarely do you get that spark on the very first date. Sometimes it does happen but usually not. That’s why it’s worth a shot to go on a second date just to give yourself a little more time and another look at the basket.

Plus, by sleeping on it you may also come up with some news questions you’d like to ask or maybe even grow some fondness. However if your first date is a total bomb then there is no need to set up a second date. No need to waste your time.
